The unofficial end of summer is bringing plenty of reasons to get out and explore Northwest Ohio. From art, music and local shopping to wildlife, family fun and opportunities to connect, Buzz Book advertisers are helping make Labor Day week memorable.

Here’s what’s happening Wednesday, September 2, through Labor Day, Monday, September 7.

Wednesday at Woodlands Concert Finale

Wednesday, September 2 | Noon–1 p.m.
Woodlands Park, 429 E. Boundary St., Perrysburg

Pack a lunch and enjoy one more afternoon of music at Woodlands Park. Old Misfits with Guitars—better known as OMG—will close the free Wednesday at Woodlands concert series.

The series is presented by the City of Perrysburg and Norma Stark Memory Garden and Labyrinth. Picnic tables are available, or bring a lawn chair.

Senior Discovery Days and Final Twilight Evenings

Wednesday and Thursday, September 2–3
Toledo Zoo & Aquarium, 2 Hippo Way, Toledo

The Toledo Zoo begins Senior Discovery Days on Wednesday. Guests ages 60 and older receive free Wednesday admission, along with weekday benefits such as free parking, coffee and a mini muffin, shopping discounts and special activities.

The September 2 program includes an 11 a.m. discussion about native landscaping and the release of migratory monarch butterflies near the Conservatory.

Visitors of every age can also enjoy the final Twilight Evenings of the season Wednesday and Thursday. Half-price admission is offered from 4–8 p.m., and the Zoo remains open until 9 p.m.

Plan a Twilight Evening

Making Cake Pops at 577

Wednesday, September 2 | 5:30–7:30 p.m.
The 577 Foundation, 577 E. Front St., Perrysburg

Learn how to roll, dip and decorate your own cake pops during this hands-on culinary class. Participants will work with white and chocolate cake while learning techniques for creating a smooth finish and preventing cracks and slips.

Everyone will make two dozen cake pops to take home. The class is designed for ages 16 and older; check availability before registering.

Vitality Arts Show Opening

Thursday, September 3 | 5–7 p.m.
Toledo Museum of Art, 2445 Monroe St., Toledo

Celebrate creativity at every age during the opening of the Toledo Museum of Art’s Vitality Arts Show. The free exhibition features artwork created by older adults participating in the museum’s Vitality Arts program.

The opening will be held in the Education Hallways of TMA’s Green Building and offers a meaningful look at creativity, lifelong learning and community connection.

Friday, September 4, and Labor Day, Monday, September 7 | 10–11 a.m.
St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, 428 N. Erie St., Toledo

St. Paul’s Lutheran Church—home of Buzz Book advertiser HeART Gallery—invites everyone to enjoy a hot brunch, relax and make meaningful connections with others.

Sunset Market and Downtown Block Party

Saturday, September 5 | 4–8 p.m.
Downtown Fremont

Spend Saturday evening shopping, dining and exploring Downtown Fremont during the Croghan Colonial Bank Sunset Market and Downtown Block Party.

More than 80 vendors will offer produce, handmade goods and one-of-a-kind finds. The evening also includes live entertainment, with Cats on Holiday performing at the Fremont Community Amphitheater from 6–8 p.m.

Admission is free.

Bubble Bop!

Saturday, September 5 | 6–7 p.m.
Sawyer Quarry Nature Preserve, 26940 Lime City Road, Perrysburg

Bubble machines, giant wands and kid-friendly music will fill Sawyer Quarry during this playful family program from the Wood County Park District.

Bubble Bop is free, but advance registration is required. Registration closes Thursday, September 3, and space is limited.

Perrysburg Sculpture Walk Opening Celebration

Labor Day, Monday, September 7 | 3:30–7 p.m.
Woodlands Park, 429 E. Boundary St., Perrysburg

Wrap up Labor Day weekend with art, music and family activities during the opening of the sixth annual Perrysburg Sculpture Walk.

The celebration introduces 13 new sculptures by nationally and internationally recognized artists. Children’s artmaking begins at 3:30 p.m., followed by a Hepcat Revival concert at 4 p.m., artist awards at 5 p.m. and a curator-led tour at 6 p.m.

The event is free. Bring a chair or blanket for the concert.
