Back-to-school season is upon us! For parents and students alike, this time of year can be both exciting and challenging. What will set your child up for success? Here are five easy-to-implement tips!

  1. Establish a routine.
Summers can be all about relaxing, but during the school year, a consistent routine helps minimize stress. Help your children create a daily schedule that includes study time, extracurricular activities, and plenty of rest.

  2. Set realistic goals.
Encourage your children to set achievable personal and academic goals for the year – anything from improving their grade in a certain class, to participating in a club, or trying out for a sport. Setting goals gives them a sense of purpose, and teaches about perseverance and determination.

  3. Get organized!
Who doesn’t love shopping for new school supplies? A new planner or calendar can help your children keep track of assignments, tests, and other activities.

  4. Encourage healthy habits.
Physical and mental well-being go hand-in-hand with academic success. Help your children prioritize regular exercise, nutritious meals and snacks, and sufficient sleep. A well-rested, healthy child can better handle the challenges of a new school year.

  5. Let them handle it.
It’s natural for parents to want to protect and guide their children – but it’s just as important to encourage their independence. Allow your kids to take ownership of their responsibilities, whether managing their homework schedule or packing their own lunch. This helps them build confidence and equips them with essential life skills they can rely on, during their school years and beyond!
